Description The University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, University Hospital -

New Jersey Trauma Center is the Level I Trauma Center for northern New

Jersey, serving 5 million people. The Center admits approximately 2,000

major trauma patients a year and is the base for the NorthSTAR helicopter

program. The Trauma Fellow functions as a junior attending surgeon and

is coordinator of the trauma teams which consist of one chief and several

junior residents. Each of the two trauma teams cover a 24-hour rotation

and is responsible for all trauma patients from initial Emergency

Department resuscitation to the operative and post-operative care which

includes ICU critical care management.
Research activities
 
Fellowship Program
Clinical The Section of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care of the University of
responsibilities Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey - New Jersey Medical School offers a

one year clinical fellowship to a candidate who has completed an approved

residency in General Surgery inthe United States or Canada. The

Trauma/Critical Care Fellowship Program offers a wide range of

experiences including opportunities for training in trauma surgery,

emergency medical systems administration, surgical critical care, and

clinical laboratory research.



Unique to the fellowship is the opportunity to interact with the University

Emergency Medical Services. This Service provides ground pre-hospital

care to the City of Newark and the surrounding area, as well as air

medical transport for northern New Jersey
Research Integrated with the Fellowship program are the activities of the Basic
opportunities Science program of trauma research of the Departments of Surgery where

specialized research laboratories and faculty are engaged in research

projects in shock, metabolic and cellular biology of injury.
Teaching The Trauma Fellow also provides day-to-day teaching and overview of the
responsibilities ICU junior residents under staff supervision.
Certifications
Salary $44,000
Applicant Applicants must be Board Eligible in General Surgery.
