| Description |
The
University of Tennessee Medical Canter 600 bed tertiary care
center |
that
serves East Tennessee, Southeastern Kentucky and portions
of |
Virginia,
North Carolina and Georgia through its hospital based |
aeromedical
service. The service flies 2 Bell 412 helicopters and |
transports
ana verage of 150 patients per month. Over 50% of these |
patients
are trauma patients. The trauma service admits 2,600 trauma
admissions
per year (85% blunt, 15% penetrating). Despite the |
predomintantly
blunt trauma population general surgical intervention is |
frequently
required because of the magnitude of trauma involved. |
Approximately
40% of the patients require ICU. Excellent support |
services
are available to help care for the patients. |
