| The one-year Trauma
Fellowship at Hartford Hospital provides a unique experience
with opportunities to develop clinical, education, leadership,
research and administrative skills. The Fellowship places
emphasis on pre-hospital care, air/ground transport systems,
and resuscitation, operative and nonoperative management of
multiple system injury patients in the settings of critical
care, acute care and rehabilitation.
You will participate, assist and have the opportunity to
become an instructor in:
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course
Advanced Trauma Operative Management (ATOM) course
Simulated Trauma Education course
Trauma Ultrasound course
In addition, you will have the opportunity to gain experience
with the following programs: Bioterrorism Program
LIFE STAR Program
Hartford Hospital Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric
Medicine
We are an 850-bed, tertiary care facility, ACS/COT verified,
state designated Level I Trauma Center admitting an excess
of 1,700 trauma patients yearly. Of this group, 1,500 are
evaluated for multiple system injuries (90% blunt and 10%
penetrating trauma). Our LIFE STAR helicopter transport
system provides over 1,300 patient transports annually.
Hartford Hospital has distinctive programs in cardiovascular
surgery, surgical oncology, and transplantation (including
heart and liver). Hartford Hospital is the major teaching
hospital for the University of Connecticut School of Medicine
and performs over 40,000 surgical procedures each year and
over 2,500 SICU admissions.
A two-year Fellowship combining Trauma and Surgical Critical
Care (Critical Care in an ACGME Accredited Program) is available
to qualified applicants. Graduates of this two-year program
are eligible for the certifying examination in Critical
Care. A funded, full-time research opportunity is also available
for those wishing to select this pathway.
