Grady
Memorial Hospital is a tertiary care facility and the largest
hospital |

in
Georgia with 1024 beds. As a partially taxpayer-supported
facility for |

indigent
patients in Fulton and DeKalb counties, it is also the only
hospital |
|
in an eight county area that functions as a Level I trauma
center. Grady |
|
admits
nearly 50,000 patients per year, including 3400 trauma patients,
|
|
70%
of whom have penetrating injuries. The state's regionalized
burn |
|
center
is housed at Grady and provides comprehensive, acute and |
|
non-acute
care for burnvictims. The hospital has just completed an |
|
extensive
renovation costing $318 million. Thenew operating rooms, |
|
surgical
intensive care unit (SICU), neurosurgical intensive care |
|
unit(NICU),
step-down unit opened in April, 1994. |

specifically tailored to the fellow's goals, each fellowship

the large volume and high percentage of patients with penetrating

injuries,
the fellowship provides superb operative experience, so that

fellow
is competent in all surgical aspects of trauma. |

Opportunities
exist for both clinical and basic science researchsoith the

assistance
of a full-time research director. A Master in Public Health
|
|
degree
from Emory University can be obtained during the fellowship
period |
|
with opportunity for research in injury prevention. |
