Emergency Medicine Elective: Accident & Emergency Department
This is a busy inner city emergency department, seeing
65,000 patients per year. The unit receives trauma on a
regular basis and is a training centre for ATLS. The Royal
Free Hospital is a neurotrauma centre, and receives head
injury patients via helicopter from north central London,
serving a population of 2 to 3 million. The emergency department
is headed by four consultants, and has six registrars and
twelve senior house officers.
